Marlena Fejzo miscarried two decades ago due to hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), an extreme form of morning sickness that can cause violent illness. Dismissed by doctors who told Fejzo she was exaggerating her symptoms, the Harvard-educated Ph.D. set about conducting a series of genetic studies that have, in the past six years, produced breakthrough findings revealing the gene responsible for HG. With HG’s genetic mechanisms now known, Fejzo is turning her attention toward treating and preventing the condition for patients. To accomplish this, Fejzo joined the founding team of Harmonia Health, which launched in early 2024.
